Cold Roll-Forming : CRM Group’s Construction Platform Expertise

CRM Group’s Construction Platform
As part of its Construction Platform, CRM Group has developed a cost-effective Finite Element (FE) model dedicated to cold roll-forming processes in industrial settings. Designed to be both accurate and practical for real-world applications, this model enables advanced simulation of the forming process while maintaining reasonable computational costs.
To ensure its representativity and reliability, the model was thoroughly correlated with the results of two full-scale experimental test campaigns, each conducted on a different industrial roll-forming line. These validation efforts confirm the model’s robustness and relevance across varied setups.
The tool now delivers precise predictions of key parameters such as material strain, spring-back behaviour, profile shape defects, and load distribution on the forming equipment, offering significant value for manufacturers aiming to optimise performance and reduce trial-and-error.
Tool and industrial applications
The Construction team can support companies working in roll-forming to estimate efforts in the rolling machine, permanent strains in the steel sheet and defects in the shape of the profile by the way of numerical simulations. Our service includes also the possibility to assess the steel grade influence on the cold roll-forming lines in terms of loads on the machine and spring-back of the metal sheet.
NAFEMS Iberia Conference
CRM Group’s expertise in cold roll-forming modelling has been recognised on the international stage. The team’s latest developments were first presented at the NAFEMS Iberia Conference in November 2024, where they attracted strong interest from experts in simulation and forming processes.
Building on this momentum, Timothy Senart and Mathieu Gauchey will represent CRM Group at the upcoming NAFEMS World Congress in May 2025, where they will deliver a technical presentation titled:
“A cost-effective cold roll forming FE model for industrial application”.
This international visibility reflects CRM Group’s commitment to providing robust, validated and industry-relevant simulation tools for cold roll-forming applications.
