CRM Group launches six new collaborative projects this September

The start of September 2025 brings strong momentum for CRM Group, with the launch of several new collaborative R&D projects at both European and regional levels. These projects reflect our continued commitment to high-impact industrial innovation, in fields ranging from digitalisation and materials optimisation to sustainability and advanced monitoring.

RFCS projects (co-funded by the European Union):

I-ROLLS (Intelligent ROLL for monitoring deformation and Slab temperature in continuous caster)
→ Coordinator: CRM Group
The project aims to integrate FBG sensors into continuous casting guide rolls to monitor slab temperature and detect early-stage deformation (cracks, bulging) during solidification.

DIGITALROLLTOP (Monitoring & control with advanced DIGITALization technologies for Tuning and OPtimization of ROLL performance)
→ Coordinator: CRM Group
Focused on advanced digital control solutions for rolling systems to improve roll performance and predictive maintenance.

RESELSCALE (Role of residual elements on scale behaviour during hot rolling and pickling)
→ Coordinator: Tata Steel Nederland
This project studies how residual elements influence scale formation and removal during hot rolling and pickling, with direct implications for surface quality.

RAVES (Renewable Advanced high strength steels for Vehicle Efficiency and Sustainability)
→ Coordinator: Institut de la Corrosion (FR)
The project aims to develop the next generation of advanced high-strength steels for vehicle lightweighting and improved environmental performance.

Interreg Euregio Meuse-Rhine project:

DIGIMACH (Digital Transformation of the Machining Value Chain for Sustainable Growth)
→ Coordinator: Sirris
CRM Group contributes to this project aimed at helping industrial SMEs transition towards a more digital and sustainable machining process chain through cross-border collaboration.

Recently approved RFCS (2025-Big Tickets for Steel) project:

GreenSteel4Rail responds to the EU’s strategy for climate-neutral mobility and circular railway infrastructure. The project will demonstrate a new generation of high-performance rail steels, produced with low-CO₂ Electric Arc Furnace technology, designed for durability, recyclability and reduced use of critical raw materials. . With a strong consortium of industrial and research partners, including CRM Group, GreenSteel4Rail introduces an unprecedented design concept for sustainable high-speed tracks.

These projects are a testament to CRM Group’s active role in shaping tomorrow’s industrial solutions, through cutting-edge research, strategic partnerships, and a clear focus on sustainability, digitalisation, and performance.
