Non-Destructive and On-Site Testing
For structural elements or other mechanical parts that are too large or too heavy or need to be tested in service, we offer a specific range of analysis tools that are brought on site. Some of these even allow to analyze materials without impacting their integrity, so-called non-destructive tests.
Techniques available at your premises include chemical composition analysis of various metals such as steel, titanium, aluminum, nickel, and copper using portable X-ray fluorescence or optical emission spectroscopy equipment.
General measurements for visual inspection, both external and internal, of metallic parts, as well as coating thickness, roughness, and hardness measurements, are non-destructive methods to perform an initial material assessment. These techniques allow evaluations even with limited magnification.
More dedicated methodologies such as analysis of material integrity using die penetrant application, ultrasound screening, and X-ray radiography inspection can reveal both surface and internal material discontinuities. These methods are critical for sectors like aeronautics and nuclear applications.
Radiography services are available on-site in Belgium and can be performed using films or digital carriers, including the use of micro-focus probes inside piping. These services can be complemented with magnetic particle testing, in-depth tomography, and advanced material inspection available in our laboratories.
CRM Group is accredited under the International standard ISO17025 for several tests, including radiography, magnetoscopy, die penetrant, ultrasound, and visual inspections, ensuring the highest level of reliability and precision.
For the evaluation of material in-service behavior and ensuring proper installation, usage, and maintenance conditions, strain gauge analysis can be performed on any type of structural element.
Our material selection expertise, combined with the insights gained through these measurements—such as revealing actual mechanical stress or strain—enables consistent and reliable structural design.
The scope for non-destructive and on-site testing ranges from a single unique part, through serial testing of small parts to validate a production process, to the full inspection of critical elements in sensitive sectors such as nuclear waste decommissioning.
Dedicated test set-up and an inspection calendar in line with your operations are available upon request.
