Non-Destructive and On-Site Testing

At CRM Group, we understand that certain structural elements or mechanical parts are too large, heavy, or integral to be removed from service for evaluation. To address this, we offer a specific range of non-destructive and on-site testing services. These services allow us to analyze materials without compromising their integrity, ensuring accurate assessments while maintaining operational continuity.

On-Site Chemical and Visual Evaluation

Our on-site capabilities include chemical composition analysis of various metals—such as steel, titanium, aluminum, nickel, and copper—using portable X-ray fluorescence or optical emission spectroscopy equipment.

To begin a material assessment, we perform general evaluations through visual inspections, both external and internal, of metallic components. We also carry out non-destructive measurements of coating thickness, surface roughness, and hardness. These evaluations provide meaningful insights with minimal intrusion and without damaging the parts.

Detecting Surface and Internal Defects

For more in-depth inspections, we apply advanced techniques to detect discontinuities. Methods such as dye penetrant testing, ultrasound scanning, and X-ray radiography help us identify both surface and subsurface defects. These are particularly critical in industries like aerospace and nuclear power, where component integrity must meet the highest standards.

In Belgium, we also provide on-site radiography using either traditional film or digital imaging. Our capabilities include micro-focus probes for internal piping inspections. When needed, these tests can be supported by additional methods—such as magnetic particle testing, tomography, and high-precision lab-based evaluations—for a complete material integrity profile.

CRM Group is ISO 17025 accredited for several key non-destructive testing methods. These include radiography, magnetoscopy, dye penetrant inspection, ultrasound, and visual testing. This accreditation ensures that our methods meet internationally recognized standards of accuracy and reliability.

Accredited Testing and Structural Monitoring

To understand real-time mechanical behavior during service, we also perform strain gauge measurements on structures and components. This allows us to monitor stress or deformation and make data-informed recommendations regarding installation, operational use, or necessary maintenance. These insights also guide optimal material selection and structural design.

Flexible Solutions for Diverse Industry Needs

Our non-destructive and on-site testing services are tailored to suit a wide range of scenarios. Whether you need to examine a single high-value part, perform series testing on small components during production, or inspect large-scale critical systems—such as those involved in nuclear waste decommissioning—we provide custom setups. Upon request, inspections can be scheduled to match your operational calendar and constraints.
