In the context of the EIT funded Recover project, CRM Group with the collaboration of the other #Europeanpartners has proved that the sintering process widely used in the #steelindustry could also bring value to the #circulareconomy of Alumina production via the Bayer process. The sintering process can indeed be utilized to semi-vitrify the red mud (alkaline byproduct of alumina production, still mostly landfilled in huge volumes worldwide) and give it the right properties to be utilized as geopolymer precursor, converting it into a valuable raw material for high added value construction products.
CRM Group took the partners and participants to a short virtual visit of CRM’s unique sintering pilot station during the #RECOVER Virtual Event held by Rusal Aughinish plant.
